According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 23.6 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and about 1.6 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older each year. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States and for that reason combating the disease and getting it under control is extremely critical. Uncontrolled diabetes carry with it serious complications, such as heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney disease, nervous system disease, and the reason more than 60% of non-traumatic lower-limb amputations.
